The Ultimate Guide to Kids' Electric Scooters in India

person Swastik Little Love ·March 29, 2026

Electric scooters are the new favourite for kids aged 6+. Here's everything you need to know about speed, safety, charging, and choosing the right one.

Electric Scooters for Kids: A Complete Indian Parent's Guide

Electric scooters have exploded in popularity among Indian kids aged 6–14. They're faster than ride-on cars, more independent than bikes with training wheels, and absolutely thrilling to ride. But they require more awareness from both parents and children.

Age and Speed Guidelines

  • Ages 6–8: Max speed 8–10 km/h. Stick to enclosed areas like apartment compounds and parks.
  • Ages 8–12: Max speed 12–15 km/h. Gated colonies and smooth park paths are ideal.
  • Ages 12+: Up to 20 km/h. Only on private roads and supervised areas — never on public roads with traffic.

Safety Gear — Non-Negotiable

Unlike ride-on cars where the child is enclosed, scooters are open and faster. A helmet is absolutely essential. Knee pads and elbow pads are strongly recommended for beginners. Closed-toe shoes are a must — no sandals or chappals.

Battery and Range

Most kids' scooters use 24V batteries with a range of 8–15 km per charge. Charging time is typically 4–6 hours. For daily park visits, one charge lasts 2–3 sessions easily.

Features to Look For

  • Rear foot brake (hand brakes can be hard for small hands)
  • Adjustable handlebar height (grows with your child)
  • Solid rubber tyres (no punctures, smooth ride)
  • LED deck lights (for visibility in evening rides)
  • Foldable design (for easy storage and transport)
