Monsoon-Proofing Your Child's Ride-On Vehicle
The Indian monsoon can damage ride-on vehicles if they're not properly protected. Here's how to keep them safe from rain and humidity.
Monsoon Season: Protecting Your Ride-On
India's monsoon brings 3–4 months of heavy rain and humidity. Battery-operated vehicles and water don't mix. Here's how to keep your child's ride-on safe during the wet season.
Golden Rule: Never Ride in Rain
This seems obvious, but excited kids don't care about drizzle. Water can seep into the motor, battery compartment, and electrical connections causing short circuits, rust, and permanent damage. Even light rain is risky.
Storage During Monsoon
- Store indoors — garage, covered balcony, or inside the house
- If outdoor storage is the only option, use a waterproof vehicle cover
- Elevate the vehicle on wooden planks to prevent water pooling underneath
- Disconnect the battery and store it separately indoors
Humidity Protection
Even without rain, monsoon humidity can cause corrosion on metal parts and connectors. Wipe exposed metal with a dry cloth weekly. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly on battery terminals to prevent corrosion.
Post-Monsoon Checkup
After monsoon ends, before the first ride: check all electrical connections, test the battery charge, spin each wheel to check for rust or stiffness, and inspect tyres for cracks from prolonged sitting.
