How to Maintain Your Child's Battery-Operated Vehicle
Simple maintenance extends the life of ride-ons by years. Learn about battery care, tyre upkeep, cleaning, and storage.
Make It Last: Ride-On Vehicle Maintenance
A well-maintained ride-on vehicle can last 3–5 years and even be passed down to a younger sibling. Here's how to keep it in top shape.
Battery Care (Most Important)
- Charge fully before first use (8–12 hours initial charge)
- Don't let the battery drain completely — recharge when the vehicle slows down
- Store with at least 50% charge — never store a dead battery
- Charge every 30 days even if not in use (prevents battery memory degradation)
- Keep the charger dry and away from heat
Tyres and Wheels
Check wheels monthly for cracks or loose bolts. EVA foam and rubber tyres need no inflation. Hard plastic wheels should be wiped clean to remove stones lodged in treads. If a wheel wobbles, tighten the axle nut — most ride-ons include the wrench needed.
Cleaning
Wipe the body with a damp cloth — never hose down a ride-on vehicle. Water can seep into the motor, battery compartment, and speaker system. For tough stains, use a mild soap solution on a cloth. Dry immediately.
Seasonal Storage
During monsoon or winter months when the vehicle isn't in use:
- Store indoors or under a waterproof cover
- Charge the battery to 50–70% before storing
- Disconnect the battery if storing for 2+ months
- Cover the vehicle to prevent dust accumulation on motors and wheels
