A Century of Kids on Wheels

Children have always wanted to drive. The vehicles they drive have changed dramatically — but the joy on their faces hasn't changed one bit.

1890s–1920s: The Pedal Car Era

The first children's vehicles were pedal-powered miniature cars, made of steel and wood. They were heavy, expensive, and primarily owned by wealthy families in Europe and America. Designs mimicked the automobiles of the era.

1930s–1960s: The Golden Age of Pedal Cars

Mass production made pedal cars affordable. Steel-bodied replicas of real cars — fire trucks, police cars, and sports cars — became standard birthday gifts. Some models from this era are now valuable collector's items.

1970s–1990s: Plastic Revolution

Injection-molded plastic replaced steel. Cars became lighter, colourful, and cheaper. Battery-powered vehicles appeared in the 1980s but were expensive and unreliable. The iconic Cozy Coupe by Little Tikes (1979) became the best-selling car in history — over 10 million sold.

2000s–2010s: The Battery Age Begins

Affordable lithium and lead-acid batteries transformed the market. 6V and 12V ride-on cars became mainstream. Licensed brand replicas (Mercedes, BMW, Audi) appeared. Features expanded: music, lights, remote control.

2020s: The Smart Ride-On

Today's ride-on vehicles feature Bluetooth speakers, USB charging, spring suspension, EVA tyres, parental remote control with smartphone apps, and LED lighting systems. Some models even have soft-start acceleration and differential steering. The technology in a ₹10,000 ride-on today would have seemed impossible 20 years ago.
